Two Cute Pastel Shoes That Are Too Cute

Marc by Marc Jacobs “Punk Mouse” Ballerina Flats

I don’t have a lot of pastels in my wardrobe, but I do love pastel colors in anything. There is something so sweet and playful about them. Now that Spring is coming, I am starting to see them pop up all over the place, especially since Easter is right around the corner (dare I mention pastel M&Ms?). I love Marc Jacobs’ ballerina mouse flats and am really feeling this pink pastel “Punk Mouse” version. I like the juxtaposition of the sweet color paired with the studs (we see what you did there, Marc;). I am also really loving Rebecca Minkoff’s pastel blue jelly sandals. They look super comfy and stylish. I will have to find my way to a store soon and try these on. Do you wear pastels?

8 Sweet Deals for Your Home and Wardrobe

Embroidered Monogram Pillows – $19.95

Though I sometimes find it cumbersome to sift through racks or shelves for bargains (due to sheer laziness), I have to admit, I love a good deal and even moreso when I come across one unexpectedly. Like the one time I bought a black silk maxi skirt for $10. I’ve worn it so many times I think I owe the designer money! I’ve done my fair share of combing sales racks, thrifting, shopping at estate sales and garage sales, but nowadays, I have to really be in the mood. Like recently, I felt like browsing online to see if there are any good deals out there. Here are my top picks. Do you like shopping for sales or just when you happen to come across them?

Adding More Green to My Wardrobe

green dress

Parted Emerald Dress by Tracy Reese

Much like my home, green is not a dominant color in my wardrobe. I think it’s a great color, but the only green items I’ve really ever purchased were an army green (jacket) and this gorgeous Indian sari inspired wrap skirt that I’ve had for a while now and still love. (Oh, and I once bought a beautiful green silk blouse in Paris.) However, I’d like to add more green to my wardrobe. I’ve done some online shopping for inspiration. Here are some of my favorite finds. Do you have any colors you gravitate towards? Does green play a prominent role in your wardrobe?

The Perfect Carry-All Bag

As you know, I’ve been challenging myself to doing 30 days of Bikram Yoga. Today will be day 25!!! Knowing this challenge would be a, for lack of a better word, challenge in itself (time constraints and all), I wanted to be sure I had the right gear. I wanted a bag that I could take from work to the studio (or gym). I searched high and low and finally found one…… my own closet, which I got……….in the men’s department at Lululemon! I have to admit, I got this bag last year (for the same reasons even though I hadn’t challenged myself to do Bikram at the time), so I have an older model, but it’s the same concept. I wanted to write about it because I’ve gotten so many compliments on it and thought I would share with the www.

It really is the perfect carry-all bag/backpack. I’ve also traveled with it and it is really an excellent travel piece. There are compartments for your laptop and iPad, an iPhone pocket on the strap in the front, a place to hold your yoga mat, and lots of compartments inside to fit your entire life. It even came with a rain pouch and a shoe pouch and it has 2 interior pockets to store your shoes! Do you ever look in the boys’/men’s departments when shopping for items for yourself (assuming you’re a female)? Do you ever “shop” your closet?

The Perfect Jet Black Stud Belt

Accessories can really pack a punch to an outfit and add personality to your style. Finding a great belt is always an adventure and finding the perfect jet black stud belt proves even more of a challenge, especially when you didn’t know you were looking for one (well, actually, It’s been on and off my mind for some time now). Imagine my happy surprise when I came across the perfect one while browsing the Emerson Fry website. I’ve always loved Emerson’s chic, minimal and timeless sense of style since she started with her flower pins a few years ago. I have a caftan I purchased a couple of years ago and still wear it all the time and get loads of compliments on it. It’s a bit of an investment piece, but I can see the longevity with this belt and the many possible ways to wear it with so many different outfits.

The Sweetest Summer Dress

We’ve had an unusual warm-up this weekend and everyone has been outside to take advantage of it (so the weather only got up to 40° F, but when you live here and have been through another brutal winter, you appreciate anything above 20° F. LolSob.). It’s inspired me to surf the web looking for warm-weather attire (though summer is still months away and a warm-weather vacation destination is, too) and came across this really sweet summer dress by Melissa Odabash. I love the peachy-coral color and how it has so many details, yet still seems laid-back. From the embroidery to the ruffles to the stitching and the strings, you’d think I was describing a costume for a Shakespearean play, but have a look yourself. See what I mean? It is sweet and laid-back and very stylish.

8 Favorite Looks from the 2015 BAFTA Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is the British equivalent of the Oscars. I’ve had a love affair with Britain (London in particular) since I traveled there a few years ago (and before then). I would loooove to make another trip soon…or, as the British might say, I’d love to have a go at it again. Funny story, while I was at the yoga studio the other day, one of the students was telling a story about his time working in London and realizing much later that his friend Don was actually Dan, but when pronounced with a British accent it sounded like Don. And throughout his time there, he had to be conscious of introducing him as Don to his English friends and Dan to his American friends. Anyway, I guess you had to be there. Back to the BAFTA Awards, here are my favorite looks from the red carpet. Cheers!

EE British Academy Film Awards 2015 - Red Carpet Arrivals

Julianne Moore in Tom FordI love that Julianne chose something so daring in so many ways, yet still managed to look classy and elegant. From the bold choice of color to the two-toned shade drawing your eyes to the top which brings you directly to the incredibly low slit on the front, it is at once sexy, yet demure.

EE British Academy Film Awards 2015 - Red Carpet Arrivals

Amy Adams in Lanvin – I think Amy did a great job with accessorizing this pretty basic cut. She went for the trend-of-the-moment tassels and managed to still make it look glamorous.

Léa Seydoux, in Prada and Monica Bellucci, in Alaïa – I have to admit, Lea’s dress is bordering a bit on the bridesmaid-wear side, but the slits on the side and the overflow of fabric immediately redeem itself back to red-carpet worthiness. Let’s talk about Monica! Oh.My.God! I have had a girl crush on this women For-everr. Seriously. She is the epitome of beauty. I love her choice of Alaïa here.It is fun, flirty and stylish.

Laura Bailey in Emilia Wickstead

Laura Bailey in Emilia Wickstead – This dress is amazingly rich in subtle details, from the quilted fabric to the pockets. Pockets on everything? Yes, please!

EE British Academy Film Awards 2015 - Red Carpet Arrivals

Stacy Martin in Louis Vuitton – The cape on this dress is everything. I love the details, including the dark black contrasting piping on the collar.

The EE British Academy Film Awards: Red Carpet Arrivals

Romola Garai in Roksanda Illncic – How adorable does Romola look in this attire (Is it okay to call a grown woman adorable? I think so.)? This is one of the most unexpected color combinations I have seen on the red carpets this year, but it works so well. It’s quite refreshing. Again, there is the contrasting piping, but on the sleeves this time. Love her shoes!

Kristin Scott Thomas in William Vintage

Kristin Scott Thomas in William Vintage – Kristin looks so confident and happy. This dress looks wonderful on her. It is understated, but very classy and still red-carpet worthy.

The 7 Best Red Carpet Styles from the 2015 Oscars

Another year. Another wrap-up of Hollywood’s golden moment – The Oscars. I think Neil Patrick Harris did really well with the opening song. I loved Lady Gaga’s tribute to The Sound of Music and it was really great to see Julie Andrews. I LOVE The Sound of Music and watched it a gazillion times when I was a kid (and even as an adult).

There were definite hits and misses with the red carpet styles. And, it’s no surprise Elie Saab made my list twice this year —- he is just on point with the glamour and glitz. Some trends to note:

Statement Necklaces

White / Cream

Black and White

What did you think of last night’s looks? What were your favorites? Here are my favorite looks from last night.

Jennifer Lopez, in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab Haute Couture – An Elie Saab creation always gets my attention.  They are so stunning and glamorous. And, is it just me, or does JLo get better every year? I loved her entire look.

Lupita Nyong'o, in custom Calvin Klein Collection

Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein Collection – Lupita looked stunning in this artfully-crafted pearls gown in the color-of-the-moment white.

Cate Blanchett, in Maison Margiela

Cate Blanchett in Maison Margiela – I loved this rock-n-roll-meets-glamour-girl-meets-hippy-chick look Cate sported last night. And I especially love the bold turquoise necklace.

Emma Stone, in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Emma Stone in Elie Saab Haute Couture – Another gorgeous Elie Saab creation on the radiant Emma Stone. Chartreuse works so well on her and makes her eyes really pop. The dress is a nice balance of sexy and classy with large doses of glamour.

Gwyneth Paltrow, in Ralph & Russo

Gwyneth Paltrow in Ralph & Russo – Gwyneth’s dress spoke volumes without saying a word – from the sophisticated silhouette to the edgy one arm sleeve to the strategically placed gigantic fabric floral concoction and down to the pale pink color.

Meryl Streep, in Lanvin

Meryl Streep in Lanvin – Meryl’s look is simply classy and glamorous without being over-done or under-dressed. I think the tuxedo jacket gives her look an extra oomph (not that the 3-times Oscar winner and bazillion-times Oscar nominated Meryl needed it).

Scarlett Johansson, in Atelier Versace

Scarlett Johansson in Atelier Versace – I liked that Scarlet went with an unexpected color. The cut of the dress really works well on her frame and the color looks amazing on her. Her hair is refreshing and so is the mis-matched earrings combo. Of course, the statement necklace was absolutely gorgeous.

15 Favorite Oscars Dresses From the Last 15 Years

2000 – Hillary Swank in Randolph Duke – This was Hillary’s first Oscar (for Boys Don’t Cry — yes, the girl who got fired from Beverly Hills, 90210 won 2 Oscars). Loved the color and style on her and that necklace is just WOW!

2001 – Renee Zellweger in vintage Jean Desses – This is a great color on Renee and this look was very reminiscent of Veronica Lake.

2002 – Cameron Diaz in Emanuel Ungaro – This made every Worst-Dressed List that year, but I loved this look from the wrap dress, to the “messy” hair and the accessories, especially the Tarina Tarantino turquoise bracelet.

2003 – Jennifer Lopez in Valentino – JLo looks as glamorous on the red carpet with this dress as she would in her Hamptons home, I’m sure. This style and color is perfect.

2004 – Charlize Theron in Gucci – Charlize definitely didn’t look like the Monster she portrayed for which she won an Oscar.

2005 – Gisele Bundchën in Christian Dior – Gisele looked like a Greek Goddess with this dress and hairstyle.

2006 – Michelle Williams in Vera Wang – This was not the same girl from the creek that I knew. Michelle looked so glamorous and beautiful with this dress and makeup.

2007 – Penelope Cruz in Versace – I love frou-frou dresses when done right. The top and bottom of this dress balance each other out.

2008 – Heidi Klum in Dior by John Galliano – Heidi looked really fierce in this fiery red dress.

2009 – Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab – To be fair, is there anything Angelina does not look good in? And, to be more fair, the earrings should take center stage with the dress.

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

2010 – Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab – Rachel is one of those chameleons that can wear anything and she looked especially pretty in this ethereal concoction.

2011 – Cate Blanchette in Givenchy Haute Couture – Cate always takes risks and she always comes out a winner, like in this masterpiece dress.

2012 – Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford – Gwyneth is channeling Jackie Kennedy here, but her take is refreshingly modern.

2013 Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta – didn’t I say I love frou-frou dresses done well? Amy looks like a princess in this gown.

2014 – Lupita Nyong’o in Prada – I loved this look on Lupita from the color to the cut to the accessories.

Valentine’s Day Inspired Fashion in Visions of Pinks and Reds

dolce & Gabbana_0948

Dolce & Gabanna

Not all reds and pinks are created equal. I don’t often wear either color, but when I find a shade that works really well on me (I have an olive skin tone), it’s like the opening of the red sea. Maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but I find it really hard to find something that looks good on me in pinks and reds. Of course, that goes without saying, season plays a factor in my choices. If they are trending colors, then obvi I’ll find a better selection.

While browsing the Spring 2015 collections (meanwhile, New York Fashion Week for the Fall 2015 Collections is in full swing), I found designers using pinks and reds, so I may have a good chance when the spring collections come out for the masses. Here are some of my favorites from the runways.
