Today is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, a man whom I admire and have the utmost respect for. In the United States, his birthday is a national holiday, but always observed on the third Monday of January. So, for many people (myself included), it’s a 3-day weekend (no work on Monday).

The above quote came to mind when I was thinking about writing this post. As I’ve said before, I love to travel and one of the reasons is because of the people I meet along the way. I love making connections with people and learning about each other. I have traveled to many different countries and have experienced such varied cultures, but I always walk away with a feeling of hope and understanding. Because, even with our differences, I’ve come to realize that we are similar in so many ways. We all have hopes, dreams and desires.

Typically, when we have a 3-day weekend, I like to get away and go on a road trip. However, for multiple reasons, I’ve decided to stay home this time. See, as much as I love to travel and have mastered the art of packing lightly and quickly, it still takes its toll on me. And, I admit, I have not fully recovered from the frenzy of the holidays. So, for now, I’ll just daydream about these places.
